It’s amazing how many kinds of trout there are. There’s rainbow trout, which are anadromous fish, meaning they live in salt water and on return only to fresh water to breed. Then we have the brown trout, which are mainly freshwater fish. We don’t only have these two, mind you. There’s cutthroat trout, brook trout, bull trout and lots of many others.
Don’t let their numbers worry you, though. These fishes may have different colors, sizes and even different temperaments, but that doesn’t mean that each kind of trout has a specific way of catching them. You can generally catch whichever kind of trout with just the same method!
To help you become a better trout fisherman (better than you already are!), I have put together a few useful tips that you can use. And believe me, these tips are effective and have been proven by experience. Try them out for yourself afterwards.
You may think that the size of your fishing gear doesn’t matter, but it actually does. If you’re fishing in clear waters, I would suggest that you use a light line. This will make it less suspicious to trout, which are very smart creatures. They’ll know when something strange is happening and avoid your bait. When fishing in murky waters and for heavier, larger trout, go for heavier lines.
Here’s another tip: choose the colors of your clothes carefully. I know, I know, you probably think what your clothing has to do with trout fishing. Well, trout can AND will notice bright colors. They’ll even notice white!
If I were you, I’d go as far as wearing camouflage to avoid having the trout notice me. But if you think that wearing camo is too much, you can choose blue and green clothes. These are colors that trout cannot see. Brown is also good, too. Just remember to wear clothes that will help you blend in the environment.
I mentioned above that trout are very smart creatures. They will also recognize if there’s something suspicious with the bait you use. But of course you can outsmart them! And you can do this by presenting the bait you use in the most natural manner. This way, the trout will not avoid your bait, thinking that your bait is, say, just another normal occurrence in the water.
Remember the things I just told you, and you’ll be catching all sorts of trout in no time. However, the best tip I can give you is to keep in mind that experience is the best teacher. So keep on fishing, and if you learn any other new tips, don’t forget to share them with your fellow fishing enthusiasts!
