can i put 1 clown knife fish in a 55 gallon tank?
I realy have my heart set on clown knife fish but don’t know if i can do this.
Only for a while, when it’s still young. A clown knife will get around 40 inches long, and that’s just short of the entire length of your tank. And it wouldn’t give your fish any turning room, which should at a very minimum be 75-100% the length of your fish (in other words, the tank for your fish as an adult would also need to be 3 feet from front to back and 3 feet deep. You would need something on the order of a 220gallon (which is 72 x 24 x 30) or (preferably) larger for one of these fish as an adult.
If that’s larger than you can get, maybe think about one of the other species of knifefish. A black ghost knife (http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/387.htm ) only get to about 20 inches. It’s more peaceful than a clown though (don’t know if the aggression is what you like about them, or just the shape and swimming motion).
